According to CNBC, the Trump administration has imposed visa bans on Thierry Breton, the former EU commissioner and a key proponent of the Digital Services Act (DSA), along with four anti-misinformation activists, accusing them of pressuring U.S. social media platforms to censor content.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in a declaration: "The State Department is taking decisive action against five individuals who are systematically coercing U.S. platforms to censor, de-platform, and suppress American viewpoints they oppose. These radicals and weaponized NGOs are driving foreign government censorship suppression—targeting American speakers and American companies every time. Therefore, their entry into the U.S. could have serious negative diplomatic policy consequences."

Reports indicate that Breton served as an EU commissioner from 2019 to 2024, and this action stems from Breton threatening compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA) in 2024 due to Musk's unmoderated interview with Trump on the X platform, escalating tensions between the U.S. and the EU over digital regulation and freedom of speech.
