CoinDesk の報道によると、カナダ政府は「強力な自由選挙法」（法案 C-25）を提案し、暗号通貨、小切手、プリペイドカードの形で政党や候補者に対する政治献金を禁止することを目指しています。その理由は、これらの資産が擬似匿名性を持ち、献金者の身元を確認することが難しく、選挙の誠実性にリスクがあるためです。この法案は現在、下院の一読段階にあります。以前、英国も暗号通貨による政治献金の受け入れを一時停止すると発表しました。
